My favorite benefits of Heavy Lifting.

Lifting heavy in the gym can be intimidating at first, however it is an extremely rewarding experience. There are many LIFELONG benefits that could help influence your gym regimen today. This post will include some of my favor benefits of heavy weight training & how to progress forward in your individual programming whenever you hit a plateau in gains.

Mood Booster

It has been scientifically proven that heavy lifting or vigorous training promotes the release of endorphins and dopamine, which in turn relieves stress and improves focus and overall mood regulation. Knowing this information, I consider it a cheat code to train early morning and set the tone, mentally, for your day. Because heavy lifting influences better brain power, I personally believe its more optimal to train in the morning opposed to in the evening for the average gym goer. Not saying anything is wrong with training at any other time of the day, but to start your day with improved focus and sharpness is a game changer as you transition into a workforce mindset. Opposingly, if your focus is overall performance, studies have shown that training during the evening will give you better results.

Improved Strength and Coordination

Secondly, heavy lifting quickly improves overall strength and coordination. Lifting heavy requires more muscle recruitment which, in turn, has positive effects on metabolism. When gym goers want to progress in muscle hypertrophy and strength, they train under a "progressive overload" structure. For example, if you perform flat bench 3 sets for 10 reps, and you want to improve your overall capacity, once you master these parameters, you then progressive with either sets, reps. or load. This allow maximal growth of whatever specific muscles you want to train. More strength in specific positions and situations ultimately gives you the ability to perform better in the gym.

Joint Stability

Lastly, and probably, the most important benefit of heavy weight lifting pertains to longevity of the human body. Nowadays in the United States, you witness a majority of people who do not practice healthy lifestyle when it pertains to BMI and diet. In turn, this usually leads to an elderly phase of life that is dependent on medications and hospital visits.

The number one cause of death among Americans over the age of 65 years old, is classified by falls. These falls often result in broken or fractured bones or limbs which bring intense complications or even death at that age. Heavy weight training is a direct nullify to this issue.

Heavy weight training promotes healthy joints and bones. Instructing the elderly in movement quality and functional training for everyday feats will drastically improve their quality of life. One huge reason I am into fitness today is to promote longevity. When I'm older in life I would love to be able to spend time with family for as long as I can.

Conclusion

Developing a fitness regimen in general has good benefits. However, heavy lifting is just superior. You will get to a point in your fitness journey that will require you to adapt & if you do not possess the necessary strength for performance this could result in injury. An injury setback at 20 years old is much different than an injury at the age of 60. If you want to improve your training regimen to include heavy weight training, please consult a fitness trainer first to gage your specific position in \your fitness journey. Avoid all setbacks.
